Cooper Hometest Prompt#1
” Depict an arrangement of objects as exceptions to their surroundings.”
In the mountainside where my family lives in Ecuador, everything has been farm-raised and has not been manufactured or used preservatives for generations.
I chose a family photo of the killing of 1 pig; this pig would then be used to feed many people and is killed during important events, compared to a factory in which multitudes of animals would be killed and processed. Using paper weaving, which is used to create certain traditional attire, I incorporated newspapers that address the problem of pollution from new machines coming into the mountainside. I then used farming Machinery that would be the exception to its surroundings because I believe it shouldn’t be here at all, and instead has harmed my family’s land. There was a moment in time when my family owned large amounts of land that was passed over for years, just for bulldozers and construction machinery to come in and build onto their land, stealing it or taking advantage of the fact that my family didn't speak as much Spanish due to being native.
